URGENT NoticeJuly 27/2026. Please be advised that effective June 26 that there was a ban on the discharge of all steel-jacketed and steel-core ammunition and is now in effect on all Club ranges. In addition, black powder firearms may only be discharged during officially sanctioned discipline shoots. No recreational black powder shooting is permitted while this restriction remains in effect. The current fire danger rating for the Greater Victoria Peninsula is Extreme, and the District of North Saanich is in the process of updating its local fire danger rating. As a precaution, and in the interest of protecting Club property and the surrounding area, these restrictions are being implemented immediately and will remain in place until further notice. Please ensure these restrictions are communicated to your discipline members and enforced during all Club activities. Notices have been posted at the range. Thank you for your cooperation. R. Lowe Firearms Donations to NSRG August 1/2026 Over the past several months, we have been contacted by a number of club members, executors of estates, and family members seeking advice on what to do with firearms that are no longer wanted or can no longer be retained. The North Saanich Rod & Gun Club welcomes donations of most firearms, including non-restricted and restricted firearms such as handguns, where they are legally transferable. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept any of the newly prohibited firearms, as current legislation does not permit their transfer. We are particularly interested in receiving donations of .22 calibre rifles and handguns, as these firearms are used extensively in our junior, training, and club programs. Depending on the club's needs, donated firearms may be retained for club use, added to our training inventory, or, where appropriate, consigned to a licensed firearms auction house for sale to new owners. The proceeds from these sales are returned to the club and help support range improvements, youth programs, equipment purchases, and other club operations. If you, a family member, or someone you know is considering leaving the shooting sports, downsizing a collection, or settling an estate that includes firearms, we would be pleased to discuss how the club may be able to assist. Donating firearms to the club is a meaningful way to support our programs, preserve our shooting heritage, and ensure that firearms are handled safely and in accordance with Canadian law. If you would like more information or wish to discuss a potential donation, please contact Ralph Lowe at nsrg.vicepresident@gmail.com and I will be happy to discuss the available options and determine the best way to assist you. |
